Consumers? Car sellers? NO.
Only the government decides this and have a perfect control via the amount of COEs they choose to release.
So if there is a under or over population of cars there is only one party to be blamed. | No. From the data it is NOT the government but the consumers because it is not controlled price. If the govt releases less COE, the COE price shoots up so high, $20k, $30k and people starts to complain... The govt needs to win people's votes so they have to give what people wants. Only during the downturn did COE when to $1 but now...
Singaporeans wants to own cars and drive...its a status symbol of achievement. So what can the govt do? Ration? What would be the better method of distributing car ownership. Without COE, either we willhave too many cars or many people queuing for limited cars and leads to bribery of licencing officials.
What is the option? |
Simple solution but yet the Government make a big blunder with the car population. Cap a quota for vehicles on the road. Anyone want to buy a car, make sure they have a scrape car for exchange. In this way, everyone happy because no more COE involved.
However, the problem is that the Transport Ministry want money. More cars means more ERP and COE to collect. They are afraid to be retrenched should they are unable to come up with money making ideas.
At the end of the day, everything, even Bus fare and MRT fare will go up to keep them employed.
Latest, they even fine Tour Bus Operator for Price Fixing but our MRT and Bus Fare price fixed by MRT and Bus company is justified because they are own by Government.

Public transport? Yes, MRT is crowded during peak, but normal times is ok because most ok Singaporeans drive. And buses...this is real difference. Just look into buses when you drive pass them. You can always find a seat even during peak hours!!! This generation of Singaporeans stopped taking buses!! |
Who want to take bus when you have to wait 20 to 25 minutes for a bus to appear? I tried one time and my blood pressure skyrocketed. Worse to come. The bloody bus service went round and round like a merry-go-round. It took you hours to reach your destination. Ta boleh tahan! |

True example : tuas to changi = car = 30 min , MRT 1hr 30min Bus 3hr... MRT so many stop so make to 1hr 30min. bus detour here and there , that why still so many drive car lor. if mrt have express that would be nice. like joo koon to jurong east to city hall to tanah merah and changi express, that would be nice so the MRT wouldn't be so squeeze for so long trip |

WORST still. The govt start drawing bus lanes everywhere including outlying areas - such that even perfectly smooth roads become congested And the justification of the bus lane is always based on a FULL bus load of 80 passengers. Such a joke - from what I see, most of the buses are half empty - 20 passengers or so, which means the bus lane are not justified at all and cause even more congestions. BUS LANE + PERPETUAL road works = more traffic jam.

| The LTA have the audacity to put up a one lane-bus-lane under a dark flyover at Lorong Chuan. Many suckers like me are trapped by the misleading bus lane. If you are using the short path to Lorong chuan for the the first time, you will caught unaware by hidden bus lane. |
