Ah fantastic I see Culture Shock is back on this saturday at 9:30. My students and I had a great time watching this cooky, quirky ang mo fellow try to make sense of asian cities. I was actually surprised at how much controversy the programme caused last time. On this blog alone there was so much discussion I guess sometimes when you go into so called culturally sensitive areas its a bit like poking a stick at a hornets nest. Also guess thats why they got a second series, love it or otherwise it certainly got people talking and with so much on tv that is watched passively this is pretty good.
From the ad that they are currently playing looks like this season they are notching up the shock value. Hope they don't loose the informative side to the show in the pursuit of shock value though. |

| oh yeh i remember last time the show was quite fun lah ! Actually Peyyee last time some of the shows were just nice, good balance between fun and strange stuff and useful info about the city. Made me want to go to Ho Chi Min city but I still have not got the money :(. But some shows like the Hong Kong one a bit cheem cheem. With a bit too much info, so much my head hurts. The guy was funny though and a bit cute in a cuddley way. |

| What show is this ? Is this the one where they show all that mental stuff, people getting pins stuck in them and extreme cultural or religious practice ? Thought it was on cable |

No that is Culture X i think and its on another channel. That programme is really extreme, looking at the more shocking practices. This one is Culture Shock it is more about an expat reactions to 'strange' foods, or religious or business style. Its quite funny because as an Asian I take some things for granted and don't see them as shocking. But when you step into an ang mos shoes you realise, that some of the things we do in the region are quite peculiar. At the same time some things they (westerners) do and eat are wierd too, like full breakfasts, like all those different accents, like being so loud and demanding (in comparision) etc etc. By the way your name, 'geylangsucks'; is it a statement or description of an action (Only joking) |

| I saw this show on sunday by accident, really funny, really bright. So nice to see a show on CNA with so much energy. When that guy eats the duck egg I nearly wet myself laughing, so funny, you could tell it was not fake. nice mix from funny jokey things to information, good balance. cock fighting was a bit bloody though but ok. they showed enough kind of distaste without being offensive to the people. It this a series ? |

| Some of my students saw the show and they were talking about the 'egg' incident. I saw the show, I must say it has changed some what. It seems faster and slicker somehow and the presenter is much thinner and acting funnier. It doesn't seem like a channel news asia show anymore, i don't know why. It is a bit more mainstream I guess. The show went so fast I am not sure what I think about it.... definately slicker, the 3 students in my class who saw it liked it. For me, I'm not so sure. I think i liked the more information rich format of the last series but jurys out...we shall see... |
