Except for the natural disasters, philipines does seem like a perfect place to maximise the use of our $$$. What's more? Migrate there and come back as FT, make money here and spend there. Woo la la!!!

What are we waiting for?

I have already done that. I have a vacation home there. A bottle of beer costs just 50cents. A small bungalow costs only $60K. If you want a free and relaxing life, this a place for you! Hahahahaha

Which part of philipines would u reccommend? Safe from natural disasters? Please advice, this is definitely worth considering.

How about doing business there? This could be a great alternative to a slogging for nothing life here in overrated Sgp.

You are using the current strength of S$ to exchange for a retirement lifestyle in the Philippines. The fact of the matter is, you are born a Sporean, earned in S$, but instead choose to settle down in a place where your earnings and savings go a long way. The basis of comparison has switched from Spore to the Philippines.

But that does not change the fact if any Sporean or Filipino, if belonging to a certain social percentile in their respective home countries, will always be in the same income bracket in their own countries. Lifestyles can only change if you move from one system/country to another.

You will not use the same arguments if you are born a Filipino. Instead of remaining in the Philippines, you would have chosen to work in Spore instead. Then the basis of comparison would have been the other way.

No place is quite safe from the natural disasters because the typhoons cover almost every part of the Philippines. In addition, Philippines is in the line of the ring of fire of earthquake and volcano.
Normally, the typhoons are not much of a problem if u live in solid house in elevated ground (safe from flood).
Corruption is a major sickness and under table is a way of life. It will be easier to do business if you have some political connection. As for me, if I have the mean- property, telecommunication and food processing are sure winners. Major businesses are controlled by the Chinese and Spanish blooded off-springs.
If you want to live like a millionaire with limited means, this a place for you. You can have a small harem if you like. You don't even have to pay road tax for your car. Americans have practically made it a retirement home and they are always accompanied by a retinue of young sexy girls. Laughing

It is the same with Singaporeans buying houses in Johore in exchange for a better quality lifestyle at a lesser cost. It is a natural phenomenon.
You can't blame us for doing it as Singapore Government is making life so hard for us to subsist with artificially created high cost of housing and living. It even makes money out of the so called subsidies such as the HDB pricing. I find it sickening.
By working in Singapore, many foreigners suffer a drop in life quality.
It is not a soft option unless you belong to elite group, for you are exchanging a rock for hard place. The paradise of Singapore comes with a hard life of expensive cost of living. They find it torture even to maintain an inexpensive lifestyle. It is similar to a Singaporean working in USA.
